Draft plans, sketches and illustrations
CoRE will be a multi purpose facility embracing a number of key activities/packages. It will:
- set standards for refurbishment
- be a test base for product development, R&D and developing new technologies
- provide quality space for built environment and construction technology related businesses
- be a high profile space for showcasing, exhibitions, conferences and meetings
- be a base for enhancing skills in refurbishment including hosting the Stoke-on-Trent College's Construction and Built Environment (CBE) centre
- facilitate business support, networking and advocacy/policy models.
Key elements
- Use of the kilns to create natural stack ventilation for the office hub. Two kilns house vertical circulation for the office hub. The kiln in the communal area to house vertical circulation and be the focus for exhibitions about work in the centre.
- A large new-build light weight structure to house the workshop/ demonstration space. To sit in the space formed by the pottery buildings and the pub and materially contrast with the brick buildings of the pottery and surroundings.
- Forming a central working yard off which all the spaces of the centre work.
